| This historical Old School offers you luxurious and comfortable surroundings with many of the services of a hotel. Originally built in 1875 as the village primary school and subsequently converted in the years after 1992, the Old School has now provided exceptional levels of accommodation and a relaxed atmosphere since 2007. Many of the buildings historic features such as the 130 year old exposed beams, heavy school doors and the original bell tower have all been retained.
We provide facilities to our guests, such as Internet access (Wi-Fi) and parking - FREE of charge. For those guests with a discerning palette we offer evening dinner in our licensed dining room. Our food is freshly prepared and locally sourced by our Chef Chris who trained at Leiths School of Food and Wine, London. Our lovely breakfast’s include homemade bread, freshly baked by Chris each day and a selection of homemade conserves and marmalade! Wonderful flavours to get your taste buds singing every morning. Our local meat suppliers are Howells who supply award winning sausages and Crebers who prepare our dry/sweet cure bacon on the premises. Both are found in Tavistock. We have a wealth of information available to you to ensure a memorable stay. So visit us and have a peaceful break. Our enormous guest lounge has a large 40” Sony TV and licensed bar or relax in your own large bedroom with a 22” Sony TV and king size bed. For those special occasions we can arrange for flowers, champagne, theatre, restaurant and taxis. We can also cater for sporting and musical events, golf, fishing and much more. Please ask us if you require further advice or assistance. Located within Dartmoor National Park the picturesque village of Horrabridge has 2 pubs – The Leaping Salmon and The London Inn, an award winning Mr Chippie, village store, post office and more. Close to the Cornish border, the Old School makes the perfect holiday base to explore Cornwall as well as Devon. Drakes Trail in West Devon is a 21 mile cycling and walking route linking Tavistock with Plymouth. Iconic features of the Trail include the new Gem Bridge (replacing an older viaduct), and Grenofen Tunnel. The Trail takes its name from numerous connections with Sir Francis Drake. In addition there is a network of 2 cycling and 4 walking routes linking places that featured in Drake’s life. Recently the award winning Director Steven Spielberg filmed ‘War Horse’ on Dartmoor with locations including Haytor, Combestone Tor, Venford Reservoir, Meavy and Sheepstor all nearby. The Hollywood director praised the beauty of Dartmoor, saying "I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor." Dartmoor Zoo Plymouth (DZP) (Sparkwell) was also the subject of a movie ‘We bought a Zoo’ Directed by Cameron Crowe. The award winning ancient Stannery town of Tavistock and its famous Pannier Market, the Naval City of Plymouth, Derriford, Princetown and Ashburton are all close by. As are the villages of Yelverton, Meavy, Clearbrook and Buckland Monachorum. We also have a 2 bedroom self catering cottage available for short or long stays.
